Clematis (clematis) is the most common decorative vine in our gardens. This plant belongs to the family of buttercups and its closest relatives: delphinium, aconite (or ladies slipper), bathing suit, and marigold.

Previously, clematis was considered a greenhouse plant - in Russian literature it was referred to exclusively as a clematis. Everyone, having first seen these huge colored stars in a park, at a flower exhibition or a neighboring summer cottage, was fascinated by them. No matter monochrome it is a bouquet or interlacing of lianas of various varieties with contrasting flowers - this is a fascinating sight. Clematis can rightly perform a solo part in your garden.

Most clematis are perennial lianas, and leaf-leafing: they are attached to the supports of leaf petioles, but there are also shrubs and half-shrubs. In total there are about 300 species.

Clematis are divided into small-flowered and large-flowered. Small-flowered species are less popular, but they are distinguished by unpretentiousness and better winter resistance. Among them are known such species as:

There are a lot of large-flowered clematis species:

  • Zhakmana (abundant bloom from June to September, color: predominantly purple-lilac, white, pink, cherry),
  • Vititsella (purple, 3m),
  • Langunosa (last year's shoots bloom in early summer and the buds re-bloom in August-September already on young shoots)
  • Texas (Taxensis) (blooms and blooms in the period June - September).

The most important information when choosing a variety of clematis: which pruning group it belongs to and how winter-hardy it is.

There are 3 trim groups:

  1. Liana is not pruned, because blooms on shoots last year. On the new shoots of flowers almost never. With the freezing of the aerial part of the flowering in the current summer, it is no longer necessary to wait. Growing clematis of this group is possible for experienced flower growers, since requires careful shelter for the winter. Unpretentious "princes" belong to the same group of pruning. They have medium-sized flowers, significantly inferior in appearance to the large-flowered, clematis varietal, but the plants are more winter-hardy.
  2. Requires trimming to 1/2 or 1/3. Representatives of this group are blooming both on the shoots of the past and on the shoots of the current year. And on the shoots of the current year, the flowers, as a rule, are simple, on the shoots of the previous one - terry (if this is inherent in this variety).
  3. Liana is cut almost completely, leaving only the "tails" of 10-20 cm. Flowering occurs on the shoots of the current year, and clematis belonging to this group grow very quickly: 10-15 cm per day. It is necessary to take care of reliable and high supports in advance: espaliers, arches, obelisks, grids, etc., since the severity of this creeper the old support can not stand and your charming flowering cloud will be on the ground.

Landing place

This plant prefers sunny, sheltered places. The soil should be loamy or clayey, but at the same time clematis does not tolerate stagnant water, therefore drainage and high space are required. It is also important to ensure that the water flowing from the roof does not fall on the plant, otherwise it will die. From the solid fence, the wall, the foundation, it is necessary to retreat not less than 50-60 cm so that the roots of the plants do not overheat and do not freeze.

Land at the landing site should be loose, well-treated with a neutral reaction.

Be sure to provide support for vines. Clematis can climb on its own only on the grid or thin crossbars. It is better not to use the net for the second group of trimming, since it will be difficult to untangle and remove the net from the shelter for the winter.

Selection of planting material

Before going to the store or nursery, you must decide on a group of pruning - it depends on how to cover the vine for the winter. If clematis is not growing on your site, it is better to start buying a plant of the third group, as there will be less worries with it.

It is advisable to buy clematis in specialized stores or nurseries. Most often, these vines sell with a closed root system in small pots. Carefully check that the seedling is healthy, free from pests. Long flexible whips are already fixed on small supports. In order for the vine not to grow too fast before planting, you should pinch the top or remove it from the support and place the ring on the surface of the earth in a pot.

Note that young shoots are very fragile and must be handled with care.

If you buy a plant with an open root system and it has not yet started growing, you can store it in the refrigerator, in the fruit and vegetable compartment in a perforated bag. As soon as the buds wake up, the seedling needs to be planted in a pot for seedlings (a trimmed plastic bottle with holes for water flow) so that the container can be easily cut when the plant is planted in the ground. Young clematis is placed in a cool bright place before disembarking on the site. The plant is planted in the ground no earlier than in the second half of May.

Ways to grow in the suburbs

To grafting proceed to flowering. From the middle part of the lash of a 3-4 year old plant, a 4–7 cm long cutting with one node is cut off and placed in a heteroauxin solution to accelerate root formation (50g per 1 liter) for less than 2-3 days. Next, the cuttings are planted on a seedling bed, buried to the kidney, in a mixture of fertile soil, sand and peat and watered with diluted heteroauxin. Carefully monitor soil moisture. Rooted cuttings for the winter are covered with spruce branches and a small box on top. The following year, in May or August, planted in a permanent place.

Shrubs divide at the age of 4-6 years in early spring, while the shoots are not set to grow. Alternately cut to each bush was 2-4 buds and a well-developed root system. Updated clematis bushes may bloom in the same year. But some varieties are quite capricious and they need some time to restore flowering.

For reproduction by layering, at the beginning of summer they make a shallow groove of 5-6 cm for the length of the shoot and place a whip from the main plant into it, fill it with fertile soil, the leaves should be above the ground.

Ensure that the soil is constantly wet. Layers feed complex fertilizer 3-4 times per season. By September, roots must form in each node. However, it will not be possible to divide and replant young plants in a year.

Clematis is planted mainly in the spring, when the plant has just started growing. When dividing bushes or planting plants in containers with a closed root system, it is possible to plant these vines in August-September.

A sufficiently large planting pit is prepared both in width and in depth (40-55x40-55x55-70 (depth) cm), since the roots grow quite actively, especially in the Jacmatman clematis.

Before planting, it is recommended to soak the roots of the seedling in a solution of rhinitis (10g - on a bucket of water), heteroaxin or epin for 2-4 hours.

For planting clematis prepare 1.5-2 buckets of humus, 0.5-1 bucket of sand, 1.5-2 cups of wood ash, 3 tbsp. superphosphate, add garden soil. Large claydite or broken bricks with a layer of 10-15 cm are poured at the bottom of the pit to ensure good drainage.

A fertile soil is poured on the drainage with a hillock and the roots are spread on it, then they are gradually covered with earth. The root neck should be deepened no less than 8-10 cm, i.e. the plant is planted a little deeper than it grew before. This is necessary to grow new roots and young shoots from the recessed buds. The young clematis should be placed in a small fossa, but as the lash is woody in its lower part, the pit is covered with earth in the course of the summer in 2-3 stages. Thus, by the fall, there should be no depression.

With a deeper planting the plant may die.

After planting, clematis is watered so as not to damage the root neck, i.e. water should not fall on the stems.

It is better to install the support (pergola, arch, etc.) before or during landing to prevent damage to the root system.

In case of return frost, the plant must be covered with non-woven material.

When planting several copies at once, observe the distance between them at least 1 meter.

Clematis love friable, well-treated and moderately moist soil, so timely weeding, loosening, and watering are required. It is also necessary for lianas to put up supports in time and attach whips to them with soft garters so that the shoots are not intertwined and they have enough sunlight.

If the plant does not have support, then growth will slow down.

It is advisable to remove the flowers that have faded away so as not to waste forces on seed aging.

If the summer is hot, then mulching should be done around the stems of the vines: sawdust, mowed grass so that the soil does not overheat. Low annuals can be planted around the clematis: calendula, nasturtium or marigold.

Clematis must be abundantly watered at least once a week, 2-4 buckets of warm, settled water under each adult plant. At the same time, the soil should be moistened to a depth of 60-70 cm for tall vines. In dry hot weather, more moisture is required.

To provide better watering, you can use plastic tubes covered with expanded clay or replace them with plastic bottles cut from both sides, covered with rubble or expanded clay. Drainage tubes digging around clematis, retreating 20-30 cm and watering through them, filling these containers.

In the first year of planting, top dressing can be excluded, provided that the soil is sufficiently fertile. From the second year of growth, the plant must be fed at least 4-5 times per season. Clematis, like roses, love feeding with a solution of mullein.

In the spring (May), during the growth period, it is necessary to feed urea and mullein: 1 bucket of mullein and 1 tbsp to a bucket of water (10 l). l urea.

Clematis of the third group of pruning can be fed at the end of May with infusion of mullein: 1 l of fertilizer for a bucket of water (10 l).

Before flowering (June) - to 10 liters of water - 10 g of Agricola fertilizer for flowering plants and 1 tbsp. potassium sulfate.

Before flowering - foliar subcomm on leaves with Bud.

After mass flowering, they are fed with a full complex mineral fertilizer (Kemira, Agricola, Fertik-summer), a solution of organic fertilizers.

In August - phosphorus-potassium fertilizers (Fertika-autumn, autumn fertilizer - 1 tbsp. Under a bush), excluding nitrogen.

Shelter for the winter

In the clematis of the third group, trimming of the scourge is not necessary, so only the “tails” of 10–20 cm are left. The liana at the base is filled up with a bucket of dry humus to form a mound. If the plant is healthy, then the tangle of lashes can be left as an extra cover, as well as for better snow retention.

Clematis, in which the sticks should be preserved (II and I groups), in late September-October (depending on the weather forecast) are removed from the supports, also humus is spilled, lapnik or boards are laid around the bush, the sticks are laid in a ring or laid out in length. From above - spruce branches or leaves of maple, oak, then you can use the old wooden box to whip is not broken, which is covered with a piece of roofing felt, slate or film (which is at hand) to avoid excessive moisture, especially during long thaws. In such a shelter is necessary to put poison from rodents, which can choose this "apartment" for wintering.

Cover the plants should only be in dry weather before the onset of cold weather.

In the spring, the shelter is removed, and the plant is broken up, but this must be done in several stages so that the spring frosts do not damage the liana.

If the above-ground part froze over the winter, then there is nothing wrong with clematis II pruning group, it will bloom a little later.

  • Wilt (vegetative wilt) - removal and burning of shoots, treatment with 10% solution of blue vitriol in spring and autumn (100g per 10 l),
  • powdery mildew - Speed (2 ml - 10 l), Chistotsvet (2 ml - 5 l of water),
  • rust - collecting and burning infectious shoots and processing plants (Fitosporin, Skor (2 ml - 10 l), Home (40 g - 10 l), Topaz (4 ml - 10 l), 1% solution of copper or iron vitriol (10 g - 1 l of water), bordeaux liquid (30g - 1l of water).

Note! Sometimes the drying of the scourge is considered to be due to a wilt due to damage: when clematis is tied to a support, weeding or after a strong wind.

  • Slugs - Thunder (granules), Metaldegite (granules),
  • mouse (during wintering) - Storm (tablet).

Moscow region, meet the following varieties

Top so gentle, but in fact - strong and resistant. Such a description is quite suitable for these decorative vines. In the wild, they can be found anywhere. It may be:

  • forest,
  • rocky slopes
  • steppe,
  • river valleys.

Before the tourist, they appear either in the form of winding vertical "carpet", or mighty shrubs. Such wild species have miniature blooms. While clematis varieties for the Moscow region (photo with descriptions just below) distinguish large flowers. They can be all sorts of shades from snow-white to black and burgundy tone. There are varieties in which flowers are collected in luxurious inflorescences of 3-7 pieces in a bunch. It affects the shape of each of them. A flower can be presented:

You can admire these lovely buds in May, and you will have to say goodbye to them in September. The main stems reach about 5 meters in length. They are exquisitely decorated with dark green foliage. Due to the fact that the leaves are arranged in pairs or alternately, the plant has a gorgeous look. At one place, these hybrids can "live" for more than 30 years. However, you need to know that it is not recommended to transplant varieties with a core root system.

Shoots can develop very intensively. Thus, in the middle of the bush dense bunches are formed, which eventually dry out. Therefore, they need to thin out, and the bush itself pruned. It does not affect the flowering splendor.

"Ville de Lyon" - Monsieur from France

It perfectly transfers cold winters of middle latitudes, therefore its branches do not need to be covered. The gardener may not worry that the foliage and stem will strike fungal or some other disease. He has an excellent "immunity." As expected, only a real Frenchman can boast of such stamina.

Throughout the summer period, the owners will admire his carmine-red flowers, which expand to 12-15 cm in diameter. These colorful umbrellas look harmoniously on young brownish shoots (grow up to 4 m). The saturated red petals of clematis “Ville de Lyon” are painted with light ripples. At the same time, the shaggy middle part adds some exotic to this “carpet of love”.

For planting fit early spring or autumn. It is desirable that the threat of night temperature drops is over.

"Gypsy Queen" - blue blood

This variety is also called the "Queen of the Gypsies." In fact, the overall flowers of purple-violet hue with thinned petals (4-6 pieces) resemble the skirt of a Romanesque girl. In diameter, these velvety umbrellas can be either 11 or 18 cm. Purple anthers, which are worn by scarlet pollen, serve as decoration. Clematis "Gypsy Queen" many gardeners appreciate for:

  • disease resistance
  • lush bloom that does not fade in the sun,
  • frost tolerance (up to -30 ° C)
  • the ability to grow magnificently on shaded areas.

The flowering period begins on the 15th of July and lasts until the first October frost. On the young shoots (top five) bloom luxurious buds. In total, there can be up to 20 such charming "beauties" on the stem.

The choice of location is very important. The plot should warm moderately and be illuminated by the sun. Excessive shadow and heat will be disastrous for him. Plant a plant costs 20-35 cm from the wall / fence.

"Rouge Cardinal" - a person of spiritual dignity

Translated from the French, this name sounds like a red cardinal. The plant is well suited. Large velvet flowers has a burgundy shade. When the shrub blooms in spring, it inspires some awe. His spectacular view carries observers in the era of the Musketeers. Such a description of clematis Rouge Cardinal fully justifies its name.

Молодые побеги вьющихся лиан необходимо подвязывать, чтобы кустарник разрастался в правильном направлении, приобретая желанную форму. В результате за летние месяцы он пустить от 3 до 5 побегов.

For these varieties are not suitable saline, acidic, moist and heavy types of soil. Alkalinity should be as low and neutral as possible. Loamy fertilized soil is ideal.

"General Sikorsky" - the commander and politician in one person

This variety of clematis came to Russia from Poland. It was here in 1965, the breeders brought a hybrid that is resistant to rapid temperature changes, as well as to fungal diseases. Bright purple petals with a bluish tinge are excellently woven along live supports from:

Clematis "General Sikorsky" can be safely grown even in a container. His foliage and flowering will be the most luxuriant, thick, if it is planted in partial shade. Despite such a loud title, this variety does not tolerate heat. Dry summer leads to the fact that he quickly fading. In this case, the buds get a pale shade.

After planting, the seedling needs feeding. Nitrogen-containing fertilizers are applied during the growing season, so that the clematis blooms magnificently. By the end of spring, add ashes or potash fertilizer to the soil. Organic matter and peat just destroy the young sprout.

Luther Burbank is more than a breeder

In honor of this great scientist, a unique hybrid of tropical vines was named. In the case of breeding this man was a pioneer.

Violet hanging carpet of large flowers will not leave indifferent any passer-by. You can enjoy this luxury for half a year. Among the important features of clematis Luther Burbank are the following:

  • the stem grows to 5 meters,
  • the size of a single flower is about 24 cm in diameter,
  • up to 10 lianas develop in one bush,
  • anthers are very large.

On one shoot you can find up to 12 flowers. The elliptical shape of the corrugated petals creates a spectacular look.

In each subsequent season, the plant must be deepened. To do this, you can simply fill the root neck with another layer of earth.

"Nikolay Rubtsov" - a lyrical digression

Apparently the extraordinary coloring of these flowers has become an inspiration portal for many poets. In this regard, it was named after one of them. His description is worthy of a literary work. On the clematis lilac umbrellas Nikolai Rubtsov, someone seemed to have made original white stripes with a brush. In the middle, above the petals, there rises an amphora of anthers, which resembles some precious vase of the Renaissance. The branches of the hybrid are so tightly intertwined with each other that they form a magnificent wreath / tiara of bright colors. On the shoots buds hold for about a month, and then fall off.

They are also not recommended to be planted in open areas, otherwise they may turn pale.

"Niobe" - caused the disapproval of the gods

The breeders decided to give this beautiful clematis the name Niobe, because its crimson flowers remind them of the story of a grieving mother. In one moment, she lost 14 children, executed by the will of the ruthless Diana and Apollo. It is the dark red hue of the wavy petals that testifies to her grief. Yet this is only a myth.

Shrub grow up to 1 meter wide, and in height - up to 2.5 meters. In the spring on the shoots you can see the black buds with a slight shade of reddish hue. Over time, they brighten.

Although the hybrid is considered to be frost-resistant, nevertheless, agronomists recommend wrapping the branches tightly for the winter.

"Nellie Moser" - oh, what a woman

For the first time after seeing these white and pink umbrellas, many are ready to exclaim this phrase. In the center of each of 9-11 white petals, a wide pink stripe is drawn. Unlike all other varieties of clematis Nelly Moser has a unique structure sepal. Petals are arranged in two rows, in a checkerboard pattern. Thanks to this structure, they look unusually impressive. When growing plants should take into account such moments:

  • bloom fade in the scorching sun,
  • the first buds appear on old branches by the end of spring,
  • in the fall they can be observed on young shoots.

In dry weather, the plant should be watered more often than once a week. After this procedure, it is important to loosen the ground, removing all weeds from the garden.

"Ballerina" - elegance in each circuit

The appearance of this "beauty" reminds the bride a lot. However, the scarlet, slightly hairy middle center immediately destroys this illusion. It was an outstanding ballet actress Maya Plisetskaya who became the muse who inspired botanists to create this miracle.

Clematis stem "ballerina" trudges slowly. He pulled out just up to 3 meters. Magnificent white blossoms stand out brightly on a green leaf of leaves (each is 15 cm in diameter). The bush has such a spectacular view that even roses fade to its background. Buds bloom on both last year’s (in June) and young (in July) stems.

3-5 hours before planting the seedling root should be soaked. The first step in the hole is to lay the drainage, cover it with earth (5 cm layer) and gently straighten the roots of the plant.

"Hope" never dies

Undoubtedly, this name immediately tells everyone about the Soviet woman. In 1969, the variety was bred by a simple lover of flowers, who decided to perpetuate the memory of her sister, calling him Clematis "Hope".

Twice a season (in summer and autumn), this unique specimen throws out large pale pink blooms. The petals look elegant bright purple strip. While the yellowish anthers delightfully combined with spreading petals.

The stalk should be cut at the end of October or the beginning of November.

Each detailed gardener can choose from several detailed descriptions and vivid photos of ten varieties of clematis for the Moscow region. They grow without problems next door to each other, creating amazing live curtains in the country.

The color of the petals can be blue, saturated blue, purple, red, pink, etc. Climbing plants are especially popular. Other characteristics of clematis:

Attention! Clematis with a core system negatively tolerate transplantation and require a permanent place on the site.

It should be understood that the first available variety in the climate of the Moscow region will not grow normally. Clematis do not like the local cool climate with short-term winter frosts. Gardeners are advised to choose plants with early flowering. Those that can form inflorescences on the branches that grew in spring.

Features landing clematis in the climate of the Moscow region

In the climate of the Moscow region clematis is usually planted in early autumn or spring, after the last night frosts. Place on the site for shrubs should choose a well-lit, without drafts. True, in the sun clematis is better not to plant, the heat, they also suffer no matter. Also, do not plant the plant close to the wall or fence.

The landing site should be deeply dug up and loose, with good drainage. Acidity is neutral or close to that. During the growing season, starting from planting, the plant needs regular feeding. However, do not make fresh organic or peat: make it worse.

A couple of hours before the process, soak the roots in water. In a pit for a seedling, pour a small slide and evenly distribute the roots on it. After planting it must be cut off. A little later, the procedure should be repeated. Also, a young plant needs a grid or grid as a support - it will cling to it with leaf petioles and will soon decorate the site with a kind of green rug. The height of the support is about 2 m.

Reviews on clematis varieties for the Moscow region

Generalized recommendations of gardeners for the care of clematis in the suburban climate look like this:

  • keep it clean by removing weeds. It is important for the size and abundance of flowers,
  • preparing the plant for winter cannot do without cutting the stalks in late autumn,
  • watering should be regular and abundant, it is better to reinforce it with mulching, otherwise the flowers will be small even in large-color varieties.

Feeding clematis effectively do the following scheme:

  • in the spring - nitrogen-containing fertilizers, for active flowering,
  • May - ash or other potash fertilizer
  • at the end of the summer - phosphate fertilizer.

Among the characteristic diseases of clematis - wilt, wilting apical leaves. To prevent the death of the plant, get rid of diseased shoots, and the bush pour a solution of potassium permanganate. From pests helps the treatment of nematocides in rhizomes. By the fall, have copper sulfate ready, which may be necessary to process the dark gray leaf necrosis.

Gardeners prove with deed: with proper care, clematis perfectly take root at the cottages near Moscow. With their help, you can create a cozy decor on the plot.

Terms of planting clematis in the suburbs

A lot of controversy among fans of clematis raises the question of the timing of landing. On a long experience, I became convinced that for the Moscow Region the most favorable time for this is late autumn. It is then that clematis is the least vulnerable. The plant passed into dormancy and prepared for winter.

If the landing of clematis for some reason is postponed in the spring, do it until the buds are not in growth or just started to swell. This is the end of April - the beginning of May.

In extreme cases, clematis can be transplanted in the summer, waiting for lignification of the shoots. In this case, regrown shoots pruned. In addition, during the spring-summer transplanting, I do not fill the landing hole to the brim, but leave it 5-10 cm short of sleep. And fill it gradually, as the shoots become lignified.

Choosing a place for clematis

In nature, clematis lives in the underbrush. Therefore, he has rather peculiar habits: the roots need cool and moist soil, and the leaves and flowers need the sun. As a plant of the undergrowth, it is not so terrible competition of the roots of other plants. That is why I tamp the vine with tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, crocuses. In the spring, at the time of flowering bulbous, clematis almost imperceptible. But time passes, and the early spring passes the baton of flowering to them. These creepers near pions feel great, but there should be at least 2-5 m to the tree trunk.

For clematis, humus-rich, fertile sandy or loamy soils with a weakly acidic reaction (pH = 5.6-6.5) are preferable. They suffer greatly from soaking in areas with close groundwater occurrence. In overmoistened soils, the clematis do not have enough air, the plants die.

For many years, plots were allocated for plots. Here and on my site, located in the floodplain of a small river, in its time, the ground squunched and squawked. The most reliable way to divert excess water - the device ditches and drainage. But you can plant clematis and on high ridges. However, in winter, such landings require a more reliable shelter. In any case, it is advisable to arrange a drainage of gravel or broken brick (at least 25 cm) at the bottom of the landing pit.

Selection of Clematis Varieties for the Moscow Region

Beginners often think that in areas with a “mild” climate, only clematis varieties and hybrids that bloom abundantly on the shoots of the current year succeed (the Jackmani, Vititsell, Integfolia groups). Indeed, the varieties of Anastasia Anisimova, Hagley Hybrid, Gypsy Queen, Golden Jubilee, Wil de Lyon, Cosmic Melody, Victory Salute, Blue Flame proved to be excellent in the Moscow region. Polish Varshavyanka, Madame Baron Vilar, Victoria, Tuchka, Nikolay Rubtsov, Mephistopheles, etc. Before these winter clematis, all the shoots are cut to the first leaf (20-30 cm) or to the level of the soil before being sheltered. Hilling the bush with dry earth or peat (plus snow in winter) will reliably protect the kidneys from freezing.

Beginners are more cautious in clematis of the Patents group. Florida and Lanuginose. And in vain! After all, they bloom twice: the first time - a month before the clematis of the Jackmani, Vititsell and Integrifolia groups, and the second - from the end of summer until late autumn. In addition, they have graceful flowers with unusual colorful accents. How much joy the refined Gladstone or solemnly white Joan of Arc, graphic Marcel Moser and lotus-pink Fair Rosamund bring in the warm Indian summer day!

Clematis Shelter for the Winter

Since the first bloom of the clematis of these groups occurs on last year's whips, and the second - on the newly grown, their shelter for the winter requires a little trick. Before the onset of constant frosts, the stalks are shortened to 1 m, removing weak and broken ones. The base of the bush mulch dry earth or peat. Scourge I take off from a support, I turn a ring and I stack around a bush. The most simple and affordable cover for clematis can be an inverted box of fruit. I lay a dry leaf or lapnik under it, and the bottom of the box, which now serves as a roof, is covered with plastic wrap or roofing material. In the winters with little snow, I additionally scoop snow from above.

It is important to cover well, but it is just as important to take shelter in the spring in time and properly. First, I remove the film or ruberoid, a box, then dry leaves or needles, and only then a layer of mulch. This layer, 5–7 cm high, remains on clematis for the longest and protects swollen buds from spring temperature drops and bright sunshine. There is a danger that the buds of clematis will rush to grow ahead of time, until the soil warms in depth and the roots are not able to work well. As a result, the plant may die.

It also happens: because of the alternation of thaws and late frost, a layer of ice forms on the soil. Do not be mulch, this ice can break the roots and damage the base of the clematis bush. Such damaged plants, if they don’t die at all, then grow 2-4 weeks late, which affects flowering in a bad way. It protects from frost and in-depth planting of clematis when the center of tillering is located at a depth of at least 10-15 cm.
